I've made contact with somebody of the Director support team and it seems that even in Director MX Unicode fonts/text will not be supported. In this matter i have chosen to make the entire application in Flash MX, which supports the unicode standard and also handles XML files quite well.
I searched the list archives for alternatives in director. I have found a lot but nothing sathisfying.
