For the app, you can try using the native Lingo "open" command, but you will
have more power, and can avoid some fairly typical problems, if you use an
Xtra. I use BuddyAPI for that. It's especially useful for controlling
whether the application opens in front of your projector or not.

For the folder, do you want to open the folder visually, or do you just want
to travel its path and use something inside it? For the latter, many
solutions exist, including BuddyAPI, FileXtra4, etc.

If you literally want to open the folder, without doing anything else,
that's a bit harder. I've never had to do that myself, or seen this work,
but I've read that goToNetPage works:

Mac
gotoNetPage("file:///folder name/file name")
PC
gotoNetPage ("folder name\file name\")

It may not work with Mac OS X. On Windows, I've also read that Lingo open
also works with folders.
