When running an application in a projector and accessing the web from behind
a proxyserver, you will need to specify the proxy server settings. This is
not an issue with shockwave, as it uses the browsers http to access
materials, but a projector must rely on its own http protocol.

To use the proxy server settings, you must first ask the enduser for the
proxyserver info, the ip address and the port number of the proxyserver.
There may be one or two proxy servers, ie. one for http and another for ftp,
you may require both if you are using getnettext and downloadNetThing().
Please note, projectors are not capable of https just http.

Normally you would then issue the appropriate proxyServer commands in a
startMovie script (if the info is already stored and retrievable from the
endusers harddrive or shortly after gathering this info from the client via
client input screens. Once set, ie. proxyServer #http,"197.65.208.157",80
the settings remain for the duration of the session or until they are reset
by you.

Please note as mentioned previously, you may have to set both the #http
proxy and the #ftp proxy. Some IT departments use a single setting for both
others use different settings. In the past on Windows boxes I have used
buddyAPI to read the registry strings to get the proxysettings
automatically, it worked for 95, 98 and NT 4 but no longer functions under
Win2K, and haven't tested on ME. Its not a fault of BuddyAPI, rather I use
Buddy to read specific registry strings, however those registry strings no
longer exist in Win2K, actually after spending the better part of an hour
searching Win2K's registry, the only proxy settings I could locate where the
ones being set for RealPlayer, which I can't trust to be there. So its back
to asking the client to input the info, or if you have a specific client
(ie. one client only) then it might be possible to hardcode it but then you
are definitely playing with fire since the IT department could change the
proxy settings and orphan your program. You will thus always need to
provide an interface for the client to access/change the proxysettings at a
later date.

Does this help at all??

Sincerely

Mark
