I think I remember having had the same kind of problem - after installing QT. I 
reinstalled windows, for several other reasons - 
Director and QT now run fine side by side. 
But, I think I got them both working before reinstalling Windows, just by running 
regclean a couple of times - I am not sure though, but it's worth a try.
I've no idea why it worked!
