Director 8 introduced the \ character as the continuation character (so you 
could more easily use external editors like notepad for your linked 
scripts).  It allowed both continuation characters.

Director 8.5 phased out the old one completely, so now just \
is the continuation character.

a find-replace all will clear that up for ya in a jiffy.
