And he certainly doesn't claim to. Nor does he have much faith in
"strong AI" as far as I can see. He *does* think that brain and minds
are machines, though. By which he means that they are things existing
in and entirely bound by the laws of physics.

What?!? Either you are saying there as no such thing as perception, or
you are saying perception exists outside physics. Both of those seem
pretty insupportable.

Perception has already arisen, and you and I are living proof of it.
