I'm sensing a 6.0.1 release forming on the astral plane...

nah, jokes apart, why I was asking, was because another user recently had success running the 6.0.0 appimage *after* removing resident linphone config from the *ubuntu* package, under .config and .local in the home directory, and your answer now is narrowing down where the problem lies, IMO.

you'd want to backup these files rather if you wanted to test that hypothesis, or what I'd do, I'd probably create a new desktop user, copy the new appimage over, and thus have one user to run 5.2.6 and another one with a *fresh* 6.0.0, and then could look and compare their user files

but I'm having a hunch that would be a slow way of finding recent changes in conf syntax or -parsing that the devs would know about already

I agree this shouldn't happen and 'bug' seems to be the word. AFAICT, the active issue tracker is at https://github.com/BelledonneCommunications/linphone-desktop/issues , it's best practice to browse for possible duplicate issues first, reporting will probably require an account at github, and a bug report is the most valuable when it contains tested and as exact as possible "steps to reproduce" the problem, e.g. if I understood you right, something along the lines of

  1) on a fresh user account, run v5.2.6 appimage
  2) add a linphone sip account
( 3) do something more )
  4) now run v6.0.0 appimage
( 5) do something more )
  6) restart appimage, voila, crash

and with 3) and 5) relating to contacts and needing to become specific if they apply (again, if I understood you well)

was 5.2.6 the previous appimage, or fedora provided?

I don't think Fedora provides Linphone. Anyway, it was an appimage.
