This was forwarded to me by a co-worker. It's interesting, and sort of
echoes IBM's experience with 64-bit Linux on zSeries. IBM mainframes have a
maximum of 16 processors per box, but they also saw linear scalability when
running a 2.4 kernel in 64-bit mode. This is very nice verification of
those results.

SGI has announced yesterday a new Intel based system (for now it's still a
prototype) with 64 processors running Linux (instead or IRIX) and breaking
new record on the STREAM Triad benchmark (more info about this benchmark in
article text).
It seems that they have reached linear scalability from 2 to 64 processors
(Intel Itanium 2).
The original Press Release from the SGI site:

The interesting thing about this new could be the new perspective for Linux
in the field of SMP systems.
