rpm cannot look ahead for dependencies. It cannot tell you what modutils needs until it has its ehands on the package. You _can_ get horrible dependency chains, but so long as you use packages "built for RHL 7.2" that is fairly unlikely. OTOH, adding a package designed for SuSE, Mandrake, Yellow Dog or whatever could be another matter altogether.
