the problem was that our distro have old versions of those packages, so we
have to compiled them from source. We can use apt, but not for those
packages, we can still use it to upgrade libs and other packages.

No, we must shutdown all the images, then bring up the basevol vm, apply
service, replicate the changes to the non-shareable dirs (etc, var, etc),
shutdown the basevol guest, and bring up again all the images.
