Dunno. Maybe its install scripts just do a mkswap /dev/hdb1 or whatever. SWAPGEN runs in CMS, by the way, so if you are IPLing directly into Linux rather than by way of CMS, you will need to do a mkswap at some point in the boot process. But if you do *that* then there's no way you're doing a CMS RESERVE on the swap disk, which means, in turn, that you're using raw FBA access to the device, which is somewhat slower than using DIAG.
