However before getting into IPL through a DASD, one has to remember that although we can do IPL from a DASD, the device would not be usable in LINUX later. One has to run the command DASDFMT to get the disk accessible as a partition and after that create a file system (use it as your root device for LINUX) The kernel, Parameter File, The RAMdisk (contains installation scripts) along with a sample job can be uploaded to your TSO Id and placed as datasets. This sample job would be for assembling the bootstrap, to write a new VTOC on the volume, to write the bootstrap records and to copy the three data sets to the volume. Once the volume is prepared we can IPL using HMC, whereby we identify the LPAR as well as the DASD. Use DASDFMT on the device. Thereafter IPL of the installed system varies according to the distribution.
