I would guess yes. If you do a "cat /proc/dasd/devices", does /dev/dasdb come up in a state of "unknown"? I've run into this from time to time and that is when a CPFMTXA FORMAT will solve the problem. It seems after that has been done, you don't need to do it again. Hope this helps.
