I would expect MySQL to be somewhat more miserly in resource
consumption. Of course the old axiom, YMMV (your mileage may vary),
will greatly apply here. Any database, vendor or open source, will run
great, if it is well tuned.

I've heard good things about JBoss and Tomcat, but alot of that really
boils down to how good (or poor) your Java programmers are. If they are
true artisans in their craft and take the time to write good code,
either will work well. If they are just cranking out programs to beat a
(likely) artificial deadline, then it will run like crap on any platform.

Be careful, DB2 Connect is not a database. It is a gateway between
workstation clients and mainframe databases (and mainframe clients and
off-platform databases). It is not a database in itself. It provides
no data serving capabilities.

Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.

A reference was made to Oracle/DB2/WebSphere being resource intensive
"Then, the big stuff started to become available. DB2, Oracle,
Websphere. One copy can take multiple IFL engines .."

My follow up question on this is: in terms of resource requirements,
would you treat MySQL as being roughly equivalent to Oracle/DB2?
And JBoss roughly equivalent to WebSphere? I understand with DB2
there is the option to use DB2 Connect, an option MySQL doesn't allow
for. So I appreciate its hard to compare directly.
