Grand New Day,

"I think that the new module is the better solution.", that's
your thoughts on the subject, but as we can see others have a different
thoughts, it's a free world, but is it ? "Everyone is free to chose
his/her preferred wheel now" but it seems we are not.

We read, "Because IBM's lawyers forbids IBM employees to "sign
off" on code that they did not write. At the moment, Martin Schwidefsky
of IBM is considered the architecture maintainer for mainframe Linux.
This makes him the only person from which Linus and Andrew Morton will
accept mainframe-related patches."

So it seems we are not, as you say free to chose, its IBM's way
or via a very long route.

We have some very good working code that 'might' need some
amends to come into line with the coding standards, wouldn't it be in
IBM's interest to assist in these amends, which one would hope take less
effort that writing a new module, then Martin can with his hand on heart
say the code has been passed by IBM...

I think that the new module is the better soloution. It splits the work
into a userspace component and a kernel module proper instead of trying
to deal with everything in kernel space. Everyone is free to chose
his/her prefered wheel now.
