Oh, God, no.  XML is the devil's spawn for stuff like this.  Human
readable/scriptable is the way to go.

Well, if we're putting in "blue sky" ideas, I think it might be nice to
have an option to direct the output to a file (instead of or in addition
to stdout/stderr). The output should be in XML format.
