If all we have is CONFIG_64BIT, how is a 31-bit kernel created? Assuming it can be built, does this mean that users of 31-bit restricted hardware must go to other sources for their distributions and support than the prevailing commercial distributors, namely, Red Hat and Novell?
I am basically confused by "every patch applies equally for both 64bit and 31bit kernels." Since IBM is not supplying patches for the 2.6.16 kernel for anything other than 64-bit on z, the distros really don't have much of a choice.
Huh? We don't have a seperation between s390 and s390x anymore, all we have is CONFIG_64BIT. That said, every patch applies equally for both 64bit and 31bit kernels. -- Carsten Otte IBM Linux technology center ARCH=s390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
