Rob, Thanks we don't have any .o or .ko files so this explain the error we did see that make file that come with the s390-tools remove the .o files

So I guess "insmod vmcp" made you try to load the user executable (the vmcp command so to say) as a kernel module. What you want is the ".o" or ".ko" module. But if you ran "make install" the kernel module should live in /lib/modules and you should be able to "modprobe vmcp" now (may take an ldconfig if the makefile did not do that).
