There is no supported unit-record driver for Linux (Malcolm Beattie
wrote one long ago, but AFAIK it hasn't been updated for 2.6 kernels, so
really isn't much help any more).

Actually, I questioned the need for Linux to access the CP *SPL system
services; I fully agree that Linux should come with a set or unit record
device drives (rdr, pun, prt), similar to the ones Malcolm developed
several years ago.... I do hope our friends in Boeblingen pick up on the
code he recently sent them and roll it into their patch stream for the
2.6 kernel.
