Not my call. I actually have two desktops. I have WinXP for most everything. I was just granted a dual core Pentium D system and told that I could put the Linux distro of my choice on it. For fun, I installed Fedora Core 6. I then requested that this system have Internet access. It got bounced from the LAN people to Corporate Security. They had a fit! They are now doing an audit on the Linux desktop to ensure that it is secure. Well, they're too busy so far, so they are asking me (I have root access, of course) to do specific commands for them. They will actually look at the machine when they have some time. And I'm still without Internet access. We have some sort of "intercepting proxy" which integrates with the MS Active Directory, and this system is not defined in AD, so I am using it for non-Internet things. Which is OK. I actually have ssh between it, my Windows desktop, and my two z/OS systems. I use ssh to copy data to the Linux system, run a script to update a PostgreSQL database, then do reports which go back to the z/OS system.
