Though I agree with you totally, many places are willing to shell out $0.00 and carve out an LPAR for a "proof of concept" type test. Many don't want the time, cost (minimal), and effort required to first install z/VM (especially if there are no z/VM literate people available), then install Linux. No offense to the OP, but this is likely to be especially true of a shop which is trying out CentOS instead of SUSE or RHEL. I know that it was the way here, before it was all bounced out the door because of insanity on the part of the then-management (since replaced) who thought that you could run Windows under Linux on a System z. They wanted to consolidate Windows SQL servers onto the System z. No, they did not want to run Oracle or DB2 or ..., only MS SQL Server.
