Hi Justin
I do not get an error a such, after entering all the info required (
there is no example in the doco,
But the data required is listed at
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-7.1-Manual/zseries-install-
guide/ch-parmfiles.html )
The installation process seems to define the localhost network config
and I am sure the network link, as defined by the parm's entered before,
You are then instructed to ssh in and continue the install, but the
eth0 interface is not found.
From the outside I am able to ping all the IP addr's except the RHEL
LPAR's.
Using the HMC console I can get into the system but ifconfig only shows
the localhost, I also cannot find any messages in /var/log.
My next step is to try get a OSA port that is not shared, which is going
to be difficult.

Gerard Ceruti

Hi Justin
I am still at stage one, the initial parm defn's after loading off the
cd, where you define the name, IP addr, GW addr, Bcast addr and disk.

What is the error you get when you try to enter the configuration?

I assume you are able to get a shell in the installer. If so, the
install log is located in /tmp/anaconda.log and can be opened with vi.

Hi, Gerard.
To the best of my knowledge, the 3270 emulator that IBM packages with
the HMC code, does not support the cut and paste function, nor does
it
come with any handy little editor. I much prefer the older OS/2 based
HMC, running PCOMM.
Try looking at the Linux boot messages (use the Linux dmesg command
to
see them). They might give you a hint as to what's wrong with the
eth0
interface.
Good luck.

Hi all
Does anyone know how to cut and paste the messages from the HMC
console.
I am trying to get the install started but I am making a mistake
with
the network configuration somewhere, As the eth0 interface is not
coming up.
Has anyone perhaps had a similar problem and also Can point me to
the location of the error log file.
