That sounds like it would cause your problem. :) I would try re-IPLing into single user mode, and then seeing if you can activate the interface manually. Have the Device Drivers manually setting next to you when you do. =:O Then, once your network is up, SSH in and use YaST to configure the "new" interface and delete the old one.
