We all go with what we are more used to. I'm more of a Perl person than awk. But whatever does the job! (replying from home).
Due to the fact that I do more work in z/OS (legacy and UNIX), I'm a bit more of an "efficiency fiend" than most. z/OS UNIX has a relatively high overhead for fork()ing, so I try to minimize the number of different processes that I use. Which is nice in one respect, but does tend to make my code not as straight forward as I would like.
