Unless you have very deep pockets and a very high frustration tolerance, I 
wouldn't spend a lot of time on that environment. There's a lot more 
opportunity on non-z/OS platforms, and the sweet spot for something like this 
is offloading the UI MIPS from CPs to IFLs, keeping the data management on 
z/OS.

Already been done, AFAIK. It (sqlite) certainly builds and runs cleanly on 
Linux for Z. It does have some performance issues at high loads, but that's 
true for sqlite on all platforms. You may want to look at mongoDB instead.
