I agree with David. I had to move a TSM server form VM to some other platform. Years ago, Tivoli dropped support for TSM on VM. For years I bugged Tivoli for support of channel attached tapes on Linux on System z. No luck. Finally, I migrated all of my data from TSM on VM to a TSM on Linux running on Intel. CPU usage for TSM is quite high and may not be a good candidate for your IFLs unless you have lots to use or few clients.

If you mean FCP-connected disk, yes, with caveats. There are "officially supported" vendors where the vendor has paid IBM to do testing and certification. In general, most FCP-connected disk "just works", especially if you put it behind a SAN switch that IBM does "officially" support. That isolates the disk from the Z, and as long as the SAN switch is something IBM has tested, it pretty much works fine. > The background: > We're currently running a Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) server 5.5 on zOS, > and have found out that TSM 5.5 is the last version on zOS. They did tell you that you won't be able to use your current channel-attached tape drives, right? TSM on Linux doesn't support channel-attached tape. The Linux TSM code is far less efficient than the z/OS (and z/VM) TSM code was. Expect a fair increase in CPU usage. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@vm.marist.edu with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For more information on Linux on System z, visit http://wiki.linuxvm.org/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@vm.marist.edu with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For more information on Linux on System z, visit http://wiki.linuxvm.org/
