Kyle,

Did you try formatting the disks with dasdfmt **before** bringing up the
installer? So the overall steps would be:

-) Punch files to reader and IPL reader
-) *** Start an SSH session as "root" and dasdfmt disks ***
-) Start an ssh session as "install" and start install
-) Continue ....

In older versions of the book we used to write "Hey maybe you should try
this ...". In the last one we wrote "Just do this ...."
