I don't know for RHEL. I know that you can check this at least with
SLES11SP3 and later with the utility dasdstat

1. Enable the statistics
   # dasdstat -e
2. run some workload
3. check the statistics with 
   # dasdstat
4. disable the statistics
   # dasdstat -d
