One more thing to try is perhaps root=/dev/dasda1. If you only have one disk, perhaps you'll get lucky with the device name matching. The other thing to try is turning on debug output: debug rd.debug (or rd_debug, depending) What does your /etc/zipl.conf file look like on the working system?
