But isn't that all handled automatically by grub2-install? It rebuilds the stage1-initramfs and also executes zipl AFAIK, and you don't have to care about the "bloody" details, like which initrd to copy and what zipl-config to use. Anyway I just wanted to share some awareness, because I "bricked" already one (development) VM because I tried exactly this - extending btrfs with a second DASD - and forgot to rebuild the stage1 zipl and initramfs.
