The first place to start for Linux documentation is in the distro-specific 
Device Driver, Feature, and Command Reference.   You will find there an example 
of using an SMSG to run a vmur command, along with the discussions about 
security.

If folks would like generic "hot reader" support in Linux, the kernel is going 
to have to be modified to generate a UEVENT when an unsolicited Device End show 
up on a device.  Then you could have a UDEV rule that runs a script to 
interrogate the RDR and run vmur as desired.  But as best I can tell, only 
Channel Report Words generate UEVENTs today.
