I have discovered something about this utility:
I run SETI@home from console.:
1) If i switch to X11 (working on something other) the system sometimes
crashes.
2) If I leave the computer with X started but the Xserver is not "on the
monitor" (I switched to a normal console) the system do not crash (or
well did not crashed in a day).
