I had a calculator in the 70's that had little magnetic cards for
storing programs (TI SR-52). I wrote a little OS with a swapping system
so I could run bigger programs.

Or it could be Jupiter in alignment with Mars and Pluto this time....

Isn't it VERY convinient to find fault with hardware when YOUR
the Windows USER who always blows your own dick off about how
LINUX doesn't support hardware properly?

Well, Linux may not have as much support for hardware as Windows
but what it does support, IT ACTUALLY SUPPORTS!!!!

Hope this helps.

No, my complete argument is that you have no proof there were not
exploits. You appear to be saying that there were none (and use lack of
evidence to support the claim) in order to pretend that having a back
door in closed source software for years is somehow better than having
it found almost immediately when the code was opened.

Its frankly quite ridiculous. You start with an infallible position
(since you can't prove a negative, you cannot prove there were no
exploits) and move to an argument from ignorance based on it (that I
have no proof of exploits, therefore there were none). Stopping along
the way for a false assumption (there would be available proof of any
exploits) you take a contrary notion (that it is good to have a back
door in closed source software) and attempt to use it to refute a
self-evident fact (that back doors in open source software are
detected).

Why don't you and Erik Funkenbusch go off somewhere and pull each
other's pud, for a change, and leave us alone.

It's an absolute lie. This is a totally fucked deal that nobody could

My point is that you should be able to add variables to a class without
having to worry about name collisions with "private" data members.

I supposed you could use eval, but it's not as nice as
exception handling. (for example, one can use heirarchies
of exceptions for different types of errors).

I'd also be concerned about performance
implications of doing this -- does it have any adverse impact ?
It just sounds like a duct tape job (like a lot of things in
perl)

Speaking for myself, Ruby is the main reason I'm not interested
in using perl any more (That is, for programming. And if I want
to write dynamic web pages, there's PHP which is sort of like a
simplified version of perl specialised for webpages). Ruby
strikes me as being "perl++". I see it as being several steps
in the direction where perl should ideally move towards
(unfortunately, perl is somewhat hobbled by the fact that it
wasn't really designed as an OO language in the first place)

With Word 97 try:

Tools->Options->Save

Click on the Save AutoRecovery Info every.

10 minutes is usually a good interval.

BTW, application crashes are what you are talking about here - this
has little to do with OS uptimes. X applications under Linux crash as
well - perhaps even more often than those in the MS Office suite.
