I don't pretend to be objective because I'm 100% in agreement with him
regarding all forms of socialism (of either the leftist/Stalinist
variety, or the rightist/Nazi variety). I believe that my oath
requires me to do everything in my lawful power to oppose both, at
least at every point where they conflict with the inalienable and
God-given rights of every human being to life, liberty, property, and
due process of law.
But neither I nor any other person may simultaneously act as judge,
jury, and executioner. We can't fight those who would overthrow the
rule of law by ignoring it ourselves. It is a vital and cherished
part of our system of law that no one should ever be punished for a
crime unless convicted, and no one should ever be convicted unless
properly charged, prosecuted, and proven *beyond reasonable doubt* to
be guilty.
Such a conviction requires the unanimous vote of a jury chosen in part
by the defense. If you think about it, that is very unlikely, and the
reason is that probably 90% of the American people don't understand
enough about law, history, economics or politics to understand why
things like government-controlled "education," Social Security,
welfare (whether individual or corporate), the "War on Drugs,"
progressive taxation, interventionist foreign policy, and numerous
other policies and practices of the federal government not only are
illegal under the Constitution, but would be extremely bad ideas even
if they were not.
As long as we as a society are uninformed about our own history, law,
politics, economics, and pretty much everything else, we won't make
much progress against those who profit from our ignorance at our own
expense.
So what I believe we need now is better education. People need to be
taught not so much *what* to think (the government system already
having done a pretty thorough job of that), but *how* to think. And
they need to be pointed to sources of truthful information. I believe
that most people (including myself to an extent) are inadequately
informed, but not that they are stupid. I'm confident that given
adequate information, they will make adequate decisions.
My guess is that until that happens, there isn't much we can do about
even the worst traitors, but once it does happen, there won't be much
they can do to save their own hides, except to stop committing
treason.

it's really good to see you!
My views on this subject haven't changed, but my tactics have. The
media never quite succeeded in marginalizing the moment of which I was
a part, but the excesses of some of our so-called "leaders"
unfortunately did, and gradually we lost most of the public support
and sympathy we had back in the early years.
At this point, I'm finding that educating myself and others about
what's going on, and why, is a lot more effective than training and
wearing camo in public and unintentionally scaring the bejeebers out
of people. :) Now don't get me wrong - I'm still more than able and
willing to assist in the defense of my home, family, friends,
community, and country if needed. But in order to do so, it's vital
that they see me and others like me not as bug-eyed anti-government
radicals, but as friends to those who love liberty and justice, and
who are willing to live at peace with their neighbors, as we are,
regardless of any differences we might have.

Please don't be too quick to judge someone you don't know.
"Son of ATF" was a frequent poster on misc.activism.militia, an
audience which, as as one might guess, has never been terribly fond of
the BATF. However, it took a lot of courage to post in that forum in
the first place, and he turned out to be far from a "yes-man" or
apologist for the ATF, the federal government, or anyone else.
I was a member of a Patriot/Militia organization (a good one at the
time), and his father was an ATF agent. Naturally, our perspectives
were very different, and we didn't always agree.
However, his integrity won him the respect of a lot of people on all
sides of the discussion, myself included.
