Would you mind pointing out whats wrong? I run sometimes X-windows on my
linuxbox (granted, only a pentium 133 Mhz) and its unbearingly slow and
bloated as a desktop system compared to Mac OS. Even when the X-server
resides on the Mac.

As a desktopsystem, looking only at the angle of a userinterface, I
would prefer Wintendo.

There are X servers for Mac OS <= 9.1 and Mac OS X probably can run
X-clients too (note that server and client terminology is reversed in X-windows).

What are you talking about? No apps for linux? With my linux distro
(slackware 7.1) I have free games (really great games too, like Koules),
I have free development software (some came with the distro, others can
be downloaded for free from the net), I have office suits for free
(Staroffice, Koffice and the latter came with the CD), I have a choice
in windowmanagers (Windowmaker, Fvwm2, Gnome, KDE, etc, etc), I have all
the networking capability I could ever need for free, I have drawing
tools for free and I could go on and on.
A full install from the installation CD holds about 1GB (ok, 960MB or
something in that area) in software. Mind you, that's not counting the
extra's you can install from the contributed software CD. What is not on
the CD, you can probably get for free from the net. Octave is a very
powerful mathematics package. Free, and comparable in power to Matlab
(which is very expensive). Further more, you have SciLab (also math's),
R (data analysis) etc, etc. All for free. All high quality ('science
grade').
Saying that there not enough apps for linux simply isn't true. Most
(serious) users will want a good office suite (Staroffice is very good),
you'll want a good web-experience (Konquerer is very good, but if you're
less demanding lynx is also very nice), you'll want some games (install
KDE or Gnome and you'll have enough games for those 'thinking hours').
If you want a games console, buy a games console. Other applications you
might want are for sale or available for free. I have yet to encounter
any piece of software that is only available for Windows that I *must*
have (I like games, but it's not what my computer is for).
