Subject: S-news-0.1.0 - A Simple news server
Date: Wed, 24 Feb 1999 22:59:28 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
What is s-news?
- ---------------
S-news is a simple news server for hosts with one or two users.
It is intened to supply spool and offline news reading for a
configured selection of newsgroups. S-news does the minimum
required to maintain a conventional news spool and makes use
of suck for news transport.
Features
- --------
It provdes a NNTP service and /var/spool/news for local news readers.
It supports any number of incoming news feeds via NNTP either by IHAVE
or suck(1).
Outgoing news feeds are made from locally posted articles and reposted
remotly by rpost(1).
It expires articles by how long they have been in the spool.
It has NNTP access configuration to allow and deny read, post and
transfer access to remote hosts.
It is very light weight and relatively easy to configure.
The suck package includes suck(1) and rpost(1).
Limitations
- -----------
No control messages are processed.
It can not feed another site.
It expects the article reposting to handle newsgroup moderation.
Outoing articles only go to the first matching host in the newfeeds file.
It uses O_EXECL file locking witch is documented as being broken on NFS.

The latest version of s-news can be found at

MAGE 0.1.2 release
==================
A new public release of MAGE, 0.1.2, is available at
http://mage.rulez.org.
What is MAGE?
- -------------
The name MAGE comes from MAGE Adventure Game Engine, in the fashion of
GNUish recursive acronyms. As the name suggests, its goal is to
provide a complete open source system for authoring and playing
interactive fiction games. Due to its modular design, the front-end
can be easily changed, thus allowing the creation of text-based user
interfaces, while still supporting graphical clients (e.g. using the X
Windowing System).
Technical issues
- ----------------
MAGE is being developed under Linux, and although we haven't yet had the
opportunity to try it out on different systems, it should compile on
every system that has a C++ compiler (with STL support) and to which
Python is ported. Of course can the various user interfaces have other
requirements. As you have probably figured it out yet, the program is
written in C++.
About this version
- ------------------
This is only a bugfix version: no memory leaks and warnings in the
MaGeTK interface.
This is a developer version, and is NOT inteded for end-users. This
version is for those who would be interested int this project, either
as contributors, or as story authors.
This is the last release before the Big Backend Rewrite, so be sure to
secure your copy of this soon-to-become piece of technological history!

This posting invites to the next Linux installparty
of the Linux/Unix user group Braunschweig, Germany.]

- ---------------------------------------------------
Vom 24. bis 25. April 1999 finden auf dem Gelaende
der Technikerschule Braunschweig die ersten
Braunschweiger Linuxtage statt.
Worum geht es ?
- ---------------
Was ist bisher passiert ?
- -------------------------
Vortragsschwerpunkt plazieren. Die Vortraege fuer
Anfaenger, Anwender und "Spezialisten" werden in
verschiedenen Zeitschienen angesiedelt sein, so dass
sich jeder ein individuelles Programm aussuchen kann.
Die Raeumlichkeiten in der Braunschweiger Technikerschule
sind sehr grosszuegig ausgelegt - wir koennen also
prinzipiell sehr viele Besucher beherbergen ;-)
Referenten, Sponsoren, Technik, etc.
kurze Mail an [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Alternativ kannst Du Dich an unserer LUG-Mailingliste beteiligen:
