TeamWave Software Ltd, a leader in producing software for 'shared Internet
places' announces the public beta of Workplace 4.2, its popular software
for distance learning and group collaboration. Workplace brings together
distributed group/course members, using Windows, Macintosh and Unix platforms.
Using shared tools like whiteboards, chat, calendars, and bulletin boards,
TeamWave Workplace provides a low-cost and easy solution for groups who need
to work together both in real-time meetings and over longer term projects.
Coinciding with this version, we are releasing a Software Development kKt
(SDK) that allows third party developers to further extend the capabilities
of Workplace to suit their particular needs. Now you can create or modify
the existing tools, or the overall environment. We are providing the complete
source code for Workplace's built-in tools, and soliciting both enhancements
to those, and user contributions of entirely new tools.
For OEM's, the software development kit (SDK) will enable you to incorporate
Workplace's capabilities directly into your own products. Talk to us if you
think your software could benefit by adding highly interactive, visual
collaboration support (e.g. shared whiteboards, images, diagramming).
For further information, please see our website, http://www.teamwave.com/

SLUG - Sydney Linux User Group - InstallFEST'99
- ------------------------------------------------
SLUG will be holding its bi-annual install festival
Saturday March 13th, at the Kegworth Public School
Leichhardt. There will be two concurrent activities,
Linux installations and a demonstration and information
venue, each in separate halls.
If you wish to come along and have us assist you to
install Linux on your own system, then pre-register
via our web page (http://www.slug.org.au) to avoid
disappointment, or simply come along on the day to
see demonstrated Linux applications such as StarOffice,
Applixware, WordPerfect Office, SIAG and others.
A range of hardware will also be on hand, ranging from
386, Pentium Pro (Dual Processor) and Pentium II systems
right up to the latest ALPHA system.
The versatility of Linux is amazing.
Admission is only $5. You get entry to both venues,
a free ticket in the "luck door prize", and a most
enjoyable day. There will be a Linux Shop where you
can purchase CD's, books and other items at reduced
prices. Light refreshments are also available.
SLUG members will be on hand to assist and answer all
your questions. Everyone is most welcome.
For more detailed information please see the SLUG web page
(http://www.slug.org.au) and follow the InstallFEST links.
Hope to see you there.
It will be a big day. Last InstallFEST we had more than
145 visitors, and we helped with 67 system installs.
Cheers, Grahame.

SLUG - Sydney Linux Users Group @ PC-IT '99 Exhibition
- ------------------------------------------------------
SLUG will have a stand at the PC-IT'99 Exhibition,
at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Center,
Darling Harbour. March 9th to 12th inclusive.
Our stand is E37 in entrance hall 2, and we will be
demonstrating the Linux 2.2.1 kernel on the latest
ALPHA workstation, Pentium Pro Dual CPU, Pentium II
and Diskless Pentium NetCafe systems.
A number of SLUG members will be on hand to answer
your questions and to demonstrate Open Source
Software specifically.
The latest releases from StarOffice, WordPerfect Office,
and Applixware together with OSS - Graphical Image
Manipulation Program (GIMP), Simulation, Internet and
Networking products will be demonstrated.
Our machines will be available for surfing the Linux
web sites, and we will have a special "install" machine
to demonstrate the ease and speed of installing Linux.
A number of free official "Linux presentations" will
also take place in the conference areas, and there are
a number of Linux vendors offering Linux products
(CD's, books, etc.) so you need not go home empty handed.
This is a great advance for Linux in Australia as I am
sure you will agree. We ask all of you that intend coming
to the show to mark your reason for visiting as "looking at Linux".
Such comments will allow the exhibition company to gauge the
Linux demand, as well as indirectly thanking them for being
so generous in giving Linux and SLUG such a prestigious
presence. Last years attendance of over 40,000 visitors will
greatly enhance the visibility of Linux to both commerical
and private users.
SLUG thanks Australian Exhibition Services P/L
(http://www.ausexhibit.com.au), in particular
Mr. Martin Nightingale for their generous offer and support.
We hope to see you all at PC-IT'99.
Cheers, Grahame

Subject: Glace-0.10 Simulation and Visualization System
Date: Thu, 25 Feb 1999 00:52:04 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Glace 0.10
This is the first public release of the Glace simulation and
visualization system. It is very alpha and unfinished but has some
features others may find interesting. The main reason for announcement
is related project X^3 Node System - 3D GUI and the first working
release of X server using texture as a display.
The Glace System
The goal of the Glace is the simulation/visualization of automata
networks. The automatas (nodes) can be whatever: particles, atoms,
molecules, neurons, electronic components, widgets, computers, X
clients/server, people, ...
Features
* The visalisation is done in 3d using Mesa (OpenGL API).
* User programmed function/visualization is done in C++, the
resulting shared object can be dynamically loaded into glace.
* Offscreen buffer selection mechanism is used for handling of the
mouse events (based on OSMesa). Every object of arbitrary complex
shape under arbitrary transformation can receive mouse and
keyboard events (is widget in window terminology). This mechanism
gives 3d interactivity a new meaning.
* Multiple camera support, each with different lighting and OpenGL
model.
* Sticky nodes.
Planned
* checkpointing
* clustering
Technology
C++, Qt, KDE, Mesa (OpenGL)
Current development is done on Linux (i386).
Included nodes/edges
Besides classical shapes (sphere, cube,...) there are:
* image (many image formats on texture)
* bezier curve, bezier surface, spiral
* 3DS and Wavefront loaders
* 3d truetype text (based on GLTT & FreeType)
* bezier rainbow tube, rainbow polycylinder, animated screw (based
on GLE)
* orb (aka xeyes or gleyes but in 3d)
* movie (plays animated .gif on texture)
* X3 - glace part of X virtual frame buffer server (full working 24
bit X server on texture (8 bit has broken colors, no quake yet))

Linux Mandrake v5.3 as low as $3!
- ---------------------------------
Circadian Software is pleased to announce yet another release to this great
operating system: Linux Mandrake GPL 5.3. With this new version, we have
lowered our prices and increased our supply of CDs.
When you order Linux Mandrake from us, you now have three choices:
1) The Expert package: a Linux Mandrake CD for $3 + S&H
2) The Plus package: a Linux Mandrake CD and bootdisk for $8 + S&H
3) The Complete package: a Linux Mandrake CD, boot and rescue disk, and an
install guide for $15 + S&H
Unlike those other "mall" distributors, our packages are unsurpassed for
their quality, options and customer service. And now, 25 of each order will
go towards supporting the Wildlife Conservation Society to help protect the
Chinstrap Penguin, the real-life cousin of the icon "Tux" we have come to
love.
For more information about the Chinstrap Penguin, please visit WCS's web
site: http://www.wcs.org
For more information about Linux Mandrake v5.3 or order this great OS,
please visit our web site: http://www.ccsoft.cc/linux/
or send e-mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
- -------------------------------------------------------------------
o What is Linux-Mandrake GPL v5.3 exactly?
------------------------------
Linux-Mandrake is an updated Linux-RedHat GPL, with KDE 1.1 (final)
graphical desktop fully integrated and preconfigured in it. Those two parts
have been modified and improved to work properly together.
o Main goals of this new distribution:
-----------------------------------
- we wish to provide a working and easy-to-install linux-distribution
for people who do not want to spend too much time in installing and
configuring their Linux system : just install it and USE IT.
- we wish to provide a very attractive, easy-to-use, Linux System for
newbies coming from the very common OS that you know ;-) For example,
after having your new Linux-Mandrake installed, just type `startx' and
your beautiful KDE window-manager comes without crying :-) Now, just
click on the cd-rom icon (on your desktop) to mount and use your
cd-rom (it's the same for floppy disks). This is very easy and you do
not need to be a privileged user for that !
- we wish to provide a new distribution in a well-known linux
environment (RH 5.2)

ACLUG Free Linux Installation
=============================
So, you want the world's most popular free operating system for
yourself? Great! Just bring your computer to ACLUG and experienced
ACLUG people will install Linux on your computer for you -- for free!
And if you like what you see, we will also have Linux CDs for sale
($15 or less) so that you can have the entire system on CD if you want
to install additional software or reinstall.
ACLUG people will do as much as possible to install and configure the
system to your liking. We'll also be available for questions about
Linux, and will explain the install pocess to you.
Directions, details, and the like are available at this event's
website:
http://www.aclug.org/events/19990227-01.html
Please read that material.
Please plan to stay at least two hours after you arrive. Also, we
would appreciate it if you arrive earlier rather than later. If you
arrive at 5, expect to be done by 7. We will not start the
installation process on any computers after 5 PM.
Note: Please register if you plan to come so we can have an estimate
of how much space to reserve. Registration is no-cost and
no-obligation; it is a courtesy to us for planning. The URL for
registration is:
http://www.aclug.org/events/19990227-01.html
At this time, we are soliciting volunteers to help install that day.
If you have Linux experience and would like to help make this event a
success, please e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks!
What to Bring
=============
Bring the following items along:
* Your computer itself
* Mouse and keyboard
* Your monitor, if you would like us to install the graphical interface
for Linux (reccommended)
* Cables for connecting the monitor, if necessary
* Documentation that came with your computer. Specifically, we need to
know the following information:
+ Amount of RAM (main memory) in your computer
+ Amount of hard disk space, and type of hard disk
+ Type of sound card, if any.
+ Any other components installed
+ Horizontal and vertical refresh rates of your monitor.
Don't worry if you don't have all of this; we can figure most of it out
ourselves. The horizontal and vertical refresh rates are the hardest to
detect; it is very helpful if you bring along your monitor's documentation
if you have it.
NOTE: Please back up your data before arriving. While ACLUG will take steps
to insure the safety of your data, installing an OS can destroy existing
data in some cases. We will try to set it up so that your existing OS, if
any, can still be booted but you may need to reinstall the existing OS in
some cases if you wish to dual boot into it.
If you have any questions, or don't have some of the above things, don't
worry! We can probably get Linux installed for you anyway; the above
materials just make it easier. E-mail us at [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you have
any questions.
What NOT to bring
=================
We'll have equipment on hand; you don't need to bring along the following
things unless you really, really want to <grin>
* Printer
* Power strips
* Any other external components
Requirements
============
Your computer should meet these minimum requirements:
* 250 meg hard disk space free minimum; 1 gig reccommended. You should
have this much space free BEFORE arriving.
* If you want us to set up your system in dual-boot mode (where you can
choose either Linux or DOS/Win95 at startup), you must have at least
DOS 6.0 or Windows 95. NOTE: If you have Windows 95 OSR2 or Windows 98
with FAT32, you MUST backup important data before arriving. You can
dual-boot into those systems, but we cannot preserve your original data
in most cases and you'll simply have to reinstall Windows.
* You should have at least 8 megs of RAM.
* You'll need a CD-ROM drive for installation (we provide the CD; you can
purchase your own if you want, but this is not required)
* For the graphical interface, you should have at least a VGA monitor.
If you don't know if your computer meets these requirements, and you bought
it sometime within the past few years, it is probably OK.
FUTURE ACLUG MEETINGS
=====================
* Monday, March 1
LOCATION & MAPS
===============
We will hold the this event in the Computer Science Department in
Jabara Hall on the main east campus of Wichita State University.
ACLUG has assembled some driving instructions on the Web at
http://www.aclug.org/maps/. We will be located on the second floor of
Jabara Hall. We expect to be in room 260, but we'll be sure to post
signs if we need to relocate elsewhere. You'll be able to find a sign
on the wall in front of the 2nd floor elevator when you arrive.

About the Air Capital Linux Users Group
- ---------------------------------------
ACLUG was created in early 1998 as a group to help people discover
better ways to take advantage of modern computing through the use of
Linux. All ACLUG events are free; we have hosted two free Linux
installation events, during which Linux was installed on dozens of
computers for no charge. We would like to show the benefits of Unix
operating systems such as Linux to as many people as possible. ACLUG
members range from people just starting out with computers and Linux
to those that have written parts of the Linux system or are doing
computer research under the Linux platform.
About Linux
- -----------
Linux is a modern, fully 32- and 64-bit operating system that runs on
a wide variety of hardware. Its most popular use is on PC-style
hardware, where Linux can completely replace Windows 95, Windows 98,
or NT. Linux sports astounding reliability, power, flexibility,
scalibility, and networking. Linux is the most popular OS for
Internet servers, beating NT. Linux also works on less-expensive
computers than NT.
Linux is developed by a worldwide team of programmers: individuals,
companies, and universities using the Internet. All source code is
available, allowing peer review -- which is important for an operating
system.
ACLUG would like to show you the benefits of Linux for home and
business use. Feel free to attend one of our meetings or ask
questions about Linux at [EMAIL PROTECTED] You may also examine the
archives of previous discussions on our discussion lists at
http://www.complete.org/mailinglists/archives/ or join the list;
instructions for doing so are at http://www.aclug.org/mailinglists/.
Announcements for upcoming ACLUG meetings and events will always be sent
first to the aclug-announce mailing lists.
