LinkScan 5.3 - Enhancements improve Website Administration and Control
San Jose, CA, March 11, 1999. Electronic Software Publishing
Corporation (Elsop) introduces a number of new features in LinkScan
version 5.3 that greatly enhance its power and flexibility in
website management and the quality and performance of a website.
Website administrators may now monitor the progress of website
maintenance through LinkScan's audit trail of site scans.
Each execution of Linkscan creates a tab delimited file
that contains key information that includes number of HTML documents
scanned, missing and containing hard error. Number of non-HTML files
scanned and missing are also included. A summary of anchors found
and missing, number of orphaned files, and a variety of URL error
conditions are also reported. This historical record may be imported
into spreadsheets and other applications for management reports.
We have improved the processing of Server Side Include (SSI) tags
when using File System navigation. SSI Include tags are fully expanded
by LinkScan. SSI tags that require scripts to be executed (CGI/EXEC)
are not processed. When using HTTP Navigation, all SSI's (including
executables) are processed by the HTTP server.
LinkScan can now check your HTTP server access logs and include the
per-document page impressions (hits) on the SiteMap reports. A summary
of documents ranked by frequency of hits may be produced to aid the
website administrator in determining which are the most important pages
to fix first. A sample of this report can be found on the Elsop site
at http://www.elsop.com/beta/hit.html
Linkscan has been enhanced to enable it to validate those sites that use
Cookie based user authentication schemes. When scanning via HTTP, LinkScan
can submit the required cookie to your server.
New commands have been added to LinkScan to provide finer control over which
directories on your server should and should not be checked for orphaned files.
Other enhancements in this release include improving the treatment of path
names containing non-standard (e.g. %encoded) characters, several cosmetic
improvements to the SiteMap and TapMap reports, and checks to detect/correct
several common configuration errors.
LinkScan provides the most benefits to administrators of very large internet
and intranet websites. It is designed to provide management reports to multiple
content managers and site maintainers simultaneously. LinkScan uses
multi-threaded simultaneous processing which enables it to check external
links at a rate in excess of 40,000 links per hour. A number of customers
check sites in a single pass that have over a quarter of a million documents.
LinkScan is being used by such large and diverse organizations as Sun
Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, NEC, Silicon Graphics, the University of
Cambridge (UK), the United States Department of Defense, Goethe Institut,
the California Institute of Technology, StorageTek, HBO, Shell Canada,
Australia's Commonwealth Department of the Environment, Rueters, iafrica.com,
Computer Associates, Candle Corp., the US National Security Agency,
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northwest Airlines, Brown
University, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the
MITRE Corporation, the Ford Motor Company, the National Aeronautics
and Space Administration (NASA), Walgreens Pharmacy, the Boeing
Company, Business Week, the Swedish EPA, Molecular Simulations Inc.,
3Com Corporation, the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Ericsson.
LinkScan operates on all Unix Servers (including AIX, BSDI, FreeBSD,
Digital Unix, HP/UX, IRIX, Linux, and SunOS/Solaris flavors) and
Windows NT 4.0 servers with Perl 5.
Free fully functional evaluation copies of LinkScan 5.3 may be
downloaded (less than 300 Kbytes) from the company's website at:

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hello,
I have released a new version of mp3blaster, version 2.0b5. Mp3blaster
is an interactive text-based program that plays mp3 audio files. It is
one of the very few mp3 players for the text console that allows full
interactive control during playback. One of its key features is the
ability to compose a very flexible playlist.
This new version fixes a bug in the decoding library that made the program
crash on some mp3 formats (notably mp3 files with a sampling frequency of
48Khz).
This version also contains several new features, the most important
being the built-in mixer support and improved command-line options.
You can download mp3blaster from these places:
ftp://mud.stack.nl/pub/mp3blaster/mp3blaster-2.0b5.tar.gz
http://www.stack.nl/~brama/src/mp3blaster-2.0b5.tar.gz
And very soon:

Subject: COMMERCIAL: Siamese Systems "8-Pack" Linux cluster case.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
COMMERCIAL
Siamese Systems announce their new product the "8-Pack" casing.
This case is designed to hold up to 8 motherboards, PC or Alpha, in
single or multiprocessor configuration, in a robust, reliable and space
saving unit. Prototypes are being built and tested and we welcome
feed back from potential customers on their needs in this small but
important market to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The case is designed for two main markets, the Linux Cluster
community, which is growing in popularity and the 3D Render farm
applications i.e. Lightwave. These markets need a machine to be able
to run reliably and cool for long periods, be cost effective, and be
space efficient. The 8-Pack case can also be used to re-house a
small number of existing machines in one box if wished i.e. network
servers.
We hope that we can incorporate our TVNC developments to expand
the potential of the 8-Pack in the future by treating TVNC units as extra
Cluster Nodes. I envisage a school or university having a small cluster
for 24 hour work and using the TVNC Linux desktops on the campus
network as extra nodes after school hours, try that with Win98.
This is a small commercial venture but we want to give back to the
community by releasing all experience gained with our cluster systems
and also releasing the TVNC software freely for personal use when
ready and making a charge to the companies who supply the hardware
to schools, universities and maybe business's . If you are interested
in getting involved in this project please email [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Who are Siamese Systems ltd
We are a small Amiga development company that has tried to push
the Amiga into the Windows market with some success. However,
with the new owners this has become difficult and for the past few
months we have been working on the Linux based TVNC system
concepts with which we hope to get partners soon. Then we will try
to bring Linux into the home aimed at the people who used to own
Amiga's and want that excitement again.

libtcp++ is a TCP/IP client server class library that

www_proxy as the name suggests is an HTTP proxy written
in C++ and using
libtcp++. Special features are logging the body of a
POST request and the capability to spoof the value of
User-Agent, so you browser could appear as either a
robot or some other browser on some other OS. Great for
debugging/figuring out CGI parameters when writing
submisssion engines, or can also help in testing the
apps that care to know what browser you are using.
tcpgate is a daemon that will proxy your traffic
unmodified to the pre-configured host/port, so it looks
like is comming from the machine the tcpgate is on.
Great for accessing News servers that allow you to
connect only from certain subnets if there is a machine
on that subnet where you have an account. In fact, I am
posting this message with the help of the tcpgate :)

Subject: gifc 2.6 - the GIF compiler
Date: Sun, 14 Mar 1999 17:53:12 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
gifc accepts a file with graphical commands and outputs
a GIF file. It originated in a need by my sysadmin to
show some system information graphically. He found that
HTML is not very versatile in placing text and graphics
on a page, so he started a kind of contest, from which
this program was born.
gifc is a Perl script, and thus needs Perl (version 5.003,
patchlevel 23; preferably 5.004). It also needs the GD
Perl module which can be downloaded at
http://www.perl.com/CPAN.
The current release (2.6) is my second public release.
The possibility to rotate text counterclockwise over
90 degrees has been added. In a later release, the general
case of rotation (and its application to images) will be
implemented.
The home page of gifc is:
http://gallery.uunet.be/Peter.Verthez/gifctxt.html,
from which you can also download the package. The program
is released under the GPL. The README file contains build
and installation instructions.
I can be reached for suggestions and bug reports at

Hi all,
After trying to get myself to release a new version of magicfilter for
three years, I'm giving up -- it isn't really interesting to me
anymore, the way for example autofs or syslinux are, and the difficult
part is all in script-generation, which is pretty high level.
I have some substantial improvement to the engine code, but the
scripts are still left at the level they were in magicfilter 1.2.
Please let me know if you would be interested in maintaining all of
magicfilter, or just the script-generation part. I believe
magicfilter is a useful tool and that it being easy to set up and
customize is a major win. However, I don't have time for it anymore,
combined with everything else I want to do.

might have. ]
groot aantal leuke publieksgerichte Internet-evenementen georganiseerd.
