Subject: nis-utils-1.0 - Linux NIS+ clients
Date: Tue, 13 Apr 1999 21:24:13 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

I have released nis-utils-1.0. This package contains the libraries libmd,
libmp, libnis_db, the daemons keyserv, rpc.nisd, rpc.nispasswdd and some
more NIS+ tools. This is all you need to use Linux as NIS+ client.

The tools for a Linux NIS+ client works and are stable. There
are the sources for a NIS+ server, but this version is pre alpha.

You need linux 2.2.0 or later and as C Library, you need the
GNU C Library 2.1.0 or later.

You could get the latest version from the main ftp server:

ftp://ftp.XX.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/net/NIS+

where XX is the country code of your nearest mirror.

More documentation is on

http://www.suse.de/~kukuk/linux/nisplus.html

Linux is like a Vorlon. It is incredibly powerful, gives terse,
cryptic answers and has a lot of things going on in the background.

Subject: Updated Linux Newbie Administrator Guide ver.0.29
Date: Tue, 13 Apr 1999 21:23:13 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hi. Our family project: "The Linux Newbie Administrator Guide" has
been significantly updated again. The current version is 0.29. Since
the last public announcement, the contents has increased by 1/3,
scores of improvement were made and typos corrected. More
additions and improvements are in progress.

The Linux Newbie Administrator Guide contains simple (hopefully) and
minimalistic answers to some problems that a Linux newbie might
encounter while planning, setting up, using, and administrating
his/her home machine or home network.

Newbie administrators are welcome to visit:

http://sunsite.auc.dk/linux-newbie/

Please note that this is a new location and update your links
accordingly.

Our old home page:

http://www.magma.ca/~bklimas/

still exists but, being a rented space at our ISP provider, it is not
guaranteed to survive forever.

We also received feedback suggesting that our FAQ part may be of
interest to "not-so-newbie" home Linux users too:

http://sunsite.auc.dk/linux-newbie/FAQ.htm

Comments, contributions, links, mirrors, and distributors are
greatly appreciated!

Best regards,

Stan Klimas, Deep River, Ontario

    Science
  - Also have Bachelor of Music degree from Webster University
  - Some training in electronics

Recent History
  - Started working for EDS in August of '97. Currently doing C, C++, and
Java development in UNIX environment with the EDS Work Force Management
    Systems Group.
  - From 1987 to 1994, worked with the Eastman Kodak company as a Field
Engineer performing installation and maintenance of blood chemistry

  - Learning as much as possible about Linux and Linux programming. I
especially like working with the Debian distribution. I have an
    interest in developing educational software.
