                              P o r t - F T P

                               Version 1.0.0

I'm proud to announce version 1.0.0 of pftp. This version supports fast
data transfer via TCP and UDP unicasted, broadcasted, and multicasted on
IPv4 as well as IPv6. Here are some details:

TCP based data transfer:

   - Send and receive directories recusively
   - Send and receive standard input and output
   - Filter your connection (usually by pgp or gzip/gunzip)
   - Correct timing (in contrast to ftp)
   - Set aliases for host and user names
   - Reduce informational output at a minimum for shell scripts
   - Set size of string to be read and written at once
   - Set the net buffer size
   - Set the bandwidth (calibration is 2 seconds, period is 2 seconds)
   - May be started as a daemon on any port or be started by the internet
daemon. Both include a password checking mechanism
   - You may also send files and directories including a subject line
and a message file if needed to other people in the net. Of course
you can comfortably browse through your received data.
   - Perform a network performance test based on TCP.

UDP based data transfer:

   - On the client side you can send your data as well as you send it
with the TCP based connection. On the server side everything you
receive is written to standard output. UDP based data transfer is
unreliable though. It is meant for sending and receiving AUDIO
     and VIDEO streams.
   - You can send unicasted, broadcasted, and multicasted datagrams.
   - On Linux it is possible to interactively change the bandwidth
and drop some datagrams periodically on the client side. On the
server side the number of incomming bytes can be shown.
   - Perform a network performance test based on UDP.

All of the above mentioned features are supported for both Internet
protocols IPv4 and IPv6.

So, what you are waiting for? Download pftp's latest version from

   http://star.trek.org/~pftp/pftp.html

or if that site is down from

   ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/network/file-transfer

pftp is free software. It is released under the GNU General Public License.
Hope, you have a lot of fun with that nice little program!

Welcome2L v3.02 Beta release

Welcome2L is a little program that may run at login time
to produce a BBS like ANSI login logo. It's very similar
to Linux_Logo. But where Linux_Logo intends to be portable
Welcome2L intends to produce the best looking ANSI screens
by making full usage of PC graphic characters. Therefor an
i386 architecture is required to use it and it will only
produce 80 columns ANSI screens.

Added a -private argument to display
an "Unauthorized access is prohibited" message.

Subject: Ganymede 0.99.1 - a network directory management system
Date: Tue, 1 Jun 1999 20:49:01 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Ganymede 0.99.1 is now available for download at

 http://www.arlut.utexas.edu/gash2/

or

 ftp://ftp.arlut.utexas.edu/pub/ganymede/

Ganymede is a GPL'ed network directory management system written in
Java, providing support for team management of NIS, DNS, etc.

- --

Quite a few changes to support production use, including the ability
to have Ganymede use an RMI registry running on a custom port and a
'stopServer' application to support automated shut-down of the server.

Added an 'rpcpass' application to the client distribution to support
Ganymede integration with the Linux NIS kit.

Did more work on improving the documentation. This still needs
a lot of work, but there's now a hypertext version of the INSTALL
file cross-linked with a comprehensive file glossary. Lots of
improvements to the source code's javadocs, but there's lots
more to be done.

Brian is working on a total revamp of the DNS support code we're using
with Ganymede. We're moving away from the old GASH hosts_info file
format and moving to an extensible XML format that will support all
the GASH DNS complexity with support for multiple DNS domains added.

In the next release or two we'll hopefully revamp the set of schema
kits included to include a DNS-only schema kit and a useful DNS and
NIS schema modeled after (but more flexible than) the current gash
and gasharl schemas.

Subject: Flight Gear Version 0.6.0 - flight simulator
Date: Tue, 1 Jun 1999 20:35:56 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Flight Gear Version 0.6.0 has been released and is now available for
downloading.

The Flight Gear Flight Simulator project is a free, open-source,
multi-platform flight sim development project. Source code for the
entire project is available and licensed under the GPL.

For more information, please visit the Flight Gear web page at:

    www.flightgear.org

Changes and improvements in version 0.6.0:

* Tons of improvements with the scenery creation tools. Inter-tile
gaps have been fixed, distorted textures have been fixed, real
coastlines have been added, and many other subtle improvements.

* Tools for parallelizing the scenery building tasks. For instance by
using 20 Linux machines in parallel, scenery for the entire USA can
be regenerated in just over 4 hours vs. 70+ hours on a single
machine. (Time will obviously vary depending on the hardware
  used.)

* Texture scale can be specified (and changed) in the materials file.
The sim must be rerun for the change to take effect.

* The windows version now uses plib joystick code so rudder pedals
  should now work.

* FGFS now builds against Steve Baker's plib (portable game devel
  library) distributed separately (www.woodsoup.org/~sbaker/plib/)

* Many source code changes for the MacOS port contributed by Darrell
Walisser (the port isn't quite there yet ...)

* Source code changes for better compiling with the Borland compiler.

* Source code changes for better compiling with the native Irix
  compilers.

* Fixed a bug so you can now fly across the international date line
(or more precisely the division between longitude = +/-180.

* Tweaks to the Astro section contributed by Durk Talsma.

* Autopilot improvements contributed by Norman Vine.

* Fonts/characters now drawn with texture maps for increased speed.

* Instrument panel can be toggled on and off with "P".

* GUI interface for tweaking some autopilot parameters.

* HUD appearance and layout changes contributed by Norman Vine, includes
faster font drawing for much better performance.

* Reset function added to reset you to your starting conditions.

* GUI function to enter a new airport id (and be transported there)

* Added serial output support for an "in-development" full motion cockpit.

* "Just in time" texture loading to reduce initial sim loading time.

Curt.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

           Linux Media Labs offers LML33
            motion video capture board.

Linux market is growing be leaps and bounds every day and we believe
that Linux users are entitled for the cutting edge hardware applications
available for other platforms (like Windows 9x). One the more prospective
fields is motion video processing, support for which have been lacking
for the Linux market.

We recently came out with a new product LML33 - PCI add-on video
capture/(de)compression/playback card. The card is capable of handling
up to a full rate (D1) digital video of near DVD quality of 720x480@30
fr/sec with compression from 1:3 up to 1:50 using MJPEG format.
Kernel 2.2 is supported now.

There is a significant demand for Linux based video processing
applications, such as network video servers, video editing solutions,
video animation production. Since our board is the only hardware of this
kind offered and supported under Linux OS you might want to look into
our if you're interested in these kind of applications for our favorite OS.

We provide low-level device drivers for the card (under GNU GPL) and
bundling it with MainConcept's MainActor video editing package.

You can check our board specifications and capture samples at our Web
site at http://linuxmedialabs.com.

LML33 can be ordered for $410 from our web site.
