=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
I am pleased to announce that Cook 2.9 is now available.
The cook program is a tool for constructing files, and maintaining
referential integrity between files.
Cook is a replacement for the traditional make(1) tool. However,
it is necessary to convert makefiles into cookbooks using the
make2cook utility included in the distribution.
You are invited to visit
http://www.canb.auug.org.au/~millerp/cook/
for a more complete description of what Cook is, and access to the
download files. New features and bug fixes are described in the
cook-2.9.README file.
If you are putting together a source-code distribution and planning
to write a makefile, consider writing a cookbook instead. Although
Cook takes a day or two to learn, it is much more powerful and a
bit more intuitive than the traditional make(1) tool. And Cook
doesn't interpret tab differently to 8 space characters!

ANNOUNCEMENT: gRMA v0.01a released
The first alpha release of gRMA a free, graphical tool for doing Rate
Monotonic Analysis of real-time systems has been released. You can
get this release from:
http://www.tregar.com/gRMA/
If you're wondering what this has to do with Linux - that's where I
developed it, and that's one OS where it will run.
- From the README:
- -----------
gRMA v0.01a
- -----------
a graphical tool for rate monotonic analysis
of real time systems
DESCRIPTION
This program provides a graphical environment for experimentation with
rate monotonic analysis of real-time systems. You are provided with
tools for describing a real time system. You can then view the
results of performing rate monotonic analysis of this system. For
details on the theory please see the documentation in the 'doc/'
directory. For details on the operation of the program, please refer
to the online help system accessible from the 'Help' menu on the main
screen.
This module is licensed under the GPL - no warranty of any kind is
provided. See the LICENSE section below for more details.
*** THIS IS AN ALPHA RELEASE ***
WARNING: This is an alpha release! It is not a complete software
product. Please report any and all bugs you find in it to me at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Please consider contributing solutions to bugs and
shortcomings - any and all help will be appreciated and credited.
This program is in a highly incomplete form. In particular, it is
possible to specify systems that the analysis engine cannot produce
results for. This was done to provide a working base for future
development. If someone wants to add, for example, the ability to
handle "bursty" aperiodic tasks to the analysis engine, all that is
necessary is to modify the engine itself. If I had not included the
"Bursty" option in the Task Editor, it would require a difficult
change to the GUI code to support that analysis. Of course, some
changes will require GUI changes, but the hope is that these will be
kept to a minimum.

Subject: TDI - A Thread Debug Interface for Pthreads Implementations
Date: Tue, 1 Jun 1999 21:28:58 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Announcement: TDI
The TDI is a generic thread debug interface for POSIX threads
implementations. The TDI is free software (GNU Library General Public
License). The TDI consists of two parts, the generic and the
implementation specific part. The generic part is a library
(libTDISrv.so) loaded dynamically at runtime by the pthreads runtime
environment. The implementation specific part is an extension called
TED (thread extension for debugging), that has to be intergrated into
the pthreads implementation. The TED part provides set iteration and
access functionality for threads, mutexes and cond vars.
A debugger can access the TDI via IPC communication (faster than
ptrace and more flexible). A request is sent to the TDI kernel, that
processes it by utilizing the TED.
The gdb was modifified for thread debugging on top of the TDI. It
offers now info functions for threads, mutexes and cond vars. Thread
specific breakpoints, thread control flow binding, a powerful tdi
access and more new commands are features of the patched gdb.
To offer a complete debugging environment, we prepared a patch for
the gdb-4.17, patched versions of the FSU pthreads and the MIT
pthreads. It should work on Linux and Solaris (try some other
UN*X's). Modifications to the Linuxthreads are in progress, but
currently not releasable.
If you want to get more informations or download the TDI and the
various patches, try:

Subject: GTL-0.3.0 - graph template library
Date: Tue, 1 Jun 1999 21:14:49 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
===========================================================================
The Graph Template Library - GTL
Version 0.3.0
==========================================================================
WHAT IS GTL?
====================
Since we are intensively working with graph algorithms
especially in Graphlet (http://www.fmi.uni-passau.de/Graphlet/),
we decided to implement GTL, a graph library based on STL. For
the design of GTL's API the API of LEDA has served as a basis.
GTL contains the classes needed to work with graphs, nodes and
edges and some basic algorithms as building blocks for more
complex graph algorithms. Further algorithms are under work.
CHANGES AND FIXES (from 0.2.6):
=======================================
* Fixed bug in pq_tree, which crashed planarity test on large
graphs.
* Added new feature make_biconnected to biconnectivity test,
which make a graph biconnected without destroying
planarity.
* Added options to planarity test: One now can switch on/off
the calculation of a planar embedding and kuratowski
graphs. Another flags allows using the make_biconnected
feature of biconnectivity test (this is much more efficient
than testing the block one after another)
* New constructor for graph: Takes another graph and a list of
nodes from this one and makes a graph isomorphic to the
induced subgraph.
FEATURES:
=================
* Datastructures for handling graphs efficiently.
* Designed to be extended to fit your own needs.
* Basic (extensible) graph algorithms:
- Depth First Search (DFS)
- Breadth First Search (BFS)
- Topological Sorting
- Biconnectivity Test
- ST Numbering
* Planarity Test with planar embedding and detection of
subgraph homeomorphic either to K5 or ot K3,3 in case
graph is not planar. The test is an implementation of the
Booth and Luecker version of the Lempel, Even, Cederbaum
algorithm. If the graph is planar, the test takes O(n) time
if n is the number of nodes. Tests show that on a Sun Sparc
Ultra 10 it takes approx. 1.3 sec to test a planar graph
with 10000 nodes.
* GML file format support
(see http://www.fmi.uni-passau.de/Graphlet/)
Please refer to our homepage for details.
AVAILABILITY:
=====================
We are currently using GTL in Graphlet on the following
platforms:
* Solaris with egcs-1.0.3 or later.
* Linux with egcs-1.0.3 or later.
* MS Windows NT/95/98 and Visaul C++ 5.0 Service Pack 3
The following configurations are reported to work:
* HP-UX 9.07 with gcc-2.8.1
The latest version is GTL-0.3.0.
The source code can be downloaded from:
http://www.fmi.uni-passau.de/archive/archive.theory/ftp/GTL/
HOMEPAGE:
=================
The GTL WWW homepage is

AUTHORS:
================
GTL was designed and implemented by:
Michael Forster <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Andreas Pick <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Marcus Raitner <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Currently only Marcus Raitner maintains GTL. Please direct any
bugreports and/or suggestions to him.

the Debian developement tree, for the stable Debian release 2.1 (slink).
This update contains the current GNOME core packages, as well as
current versions of GNOME aware applications and window managers. A
valueable new package for GNOME users, is the newly packaged GNOME
User's Guide.
As only security related updates are added to Debian's stable tree,
this update is a seperate entity.
To ease the installation for users new to GNOME, this update contains
several task packages, that install preselected sets of programms.
Upgrading an existing GNOME 0.3 installation using apt is also as easy
as running apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade.

Monthly Technical Meeting
=========================
When: Wednesday June 9, 1999 from 16:00 to 22:00
(19990609T1600/T2200)
Where: cole Polytechnique de Montral, galerie Rolland (6th floor)
Subject: Discussions, demos, and answers to your questions
Our last meeting before the summer hiatus is a very informal one.
It's the ideal occasion to meet and talk with the experts, whether
you're already sold, a beginner, or just curious and want to observe
Linux for the first time. The meeting starts earlier in the afternoon
to accommodate all those who usually can't make it in the evening. If
you are an expert and rarely or never come to the meetings because you
don't feel you need to, this is the moment to show up just for fun.
If you've never seen Linux before, you won't have any excuse from now
on for not having seen the computing phenomenon that everyone's
talking about!
Four demonstration and discussion sections will be set up, each with
its own team of volunteers under the responsability of a coordinator:
- How to install Linux
- How to configure and manage a Linux system or network
- Linux in schools
- Linux games, 3D, network playing, ...
Our monthly technical meetings are free and open to all. They are
generaly held on the second wednesday of each month, except in July
and August. They are an opportunity to discuss the latest news in
the Linux world, establish contacts, and listen to a technical
presentation on a Linux and open software related subject. They are
often held at cole Polytechnique de Montral.
