StarOffice and WordPerfect can be downloaded for free and they can load
some versions of Word files (StarOffice doesn't read Word 2, WordPerfect
does. Both read 6.x). They are not perfect, for example WordPerfect
refuses completely to read some Word 2.x files I tried.
Those are huge and for x86 only. There are alternatives, however:
Install Wabi, Windows and Word/M$ Office. It works but you have to buy
Wabi, Windows and Word -- all 3 programs. And I think other versions
don't work than those which work with windoze 3.1/3.11. You may download
Word 6 docfile viewer for free, but I'm not sure if it works with Wabi.
You might also try Wine instead of Wabi and Windoze.
