I am looking to use the Assabet for a couple of demos that my research
group is giving in a couple of weeks. We are going to be using the
assabet primarily for displaying streaming media (mpeg, most likely).
Therefore a relatively simple, touchscreen interface would be nice to
have. I have been looking into several different options, that I have
listed below, but I just wanted to get some input from other people who
know more than I do. Also, we will most likely be hacking together our
own media player, so a simple interface would be nice too.

Options that I have found:
-microwindows: I built and stripped all of the binaries, but it still
seems rather large (1.5MB) and I don't know that I need the all of the
functionality of a full blown windowing environment.

-xvfb: relatively small and lightweight, but, much as with microwindows,
it is still large and I don't know if I need all that.

-ggi: seems pretty close to what I need, although I would like to use
the touchscreen, if possible.

Lastly, and on the side, is there an easy way to input things into the
Assabt (without the neponset)? Perhaps some sort of handwriting
recognition and/or mini keyboard?

If anyone has any comments on anything above, please let me know. Thanks

-Mike
