Okay.

So, the "bad dev id" has nothing to do with the ide.  I'm okay with that,
except that I only got it when I included the IDE kernel modules.

In any case, can I assume then that my IDE interface is working properly?
If so, then what is the next step here?  I don't really know what I
expected ... I guess maybe an hd0 entry in my /dev directory ... or do I
have to create that?

I'm a little lost here.
