This didn't work, all it got me was a warning:

EXT2-fs warning: mounting unchecked fs, running e2fsck is recommended.

And the same error. I'm thinking that it is finding the library but there 
is something not right about it or the program calling the library is setup 
for the previous version only.

Thanks for your suggestions. If there are any other thoughts I could try 
drop me a line.
