Eric Klein here stumbled by accident on that gcc-2.95.3 bad
instruction issue building modutils again.  Maybe he found a clue?

To get modutils to build with the 2.95.3 toolchain, reduce the stack
frame in update_persistent_data in insmod/rmmod.c.  By changing
        char line[4096]
to
        static char line[4096]
or
        char line[1024]

everything seems to work fine.  Obviously, it's something more than the
size of the stack frame, since I was unable to reproduce the bug by
creating a function with the same automatic variables elsewhere.
