That's a bit sad.  It does indeed go off and try to talk to the ISA PIC and 
RTC but I was kind of expecting this would be harmless if you didn't have such 
devices.  Do you have hardware at IO ports 0..0xff that might be sensitive to 
being prodded in the wrong way?
