this is not equivalent to the polyphony offered by an electronic
keyboard. the tone generated by the e-string+5th fret is not the same
as the tone generated by the open a-string (the overtone series is
different).

on an electronic keyboard that is using option (c), the two tones
generated will (likely) be identical (they don't have to be, but they
probably would be).
