On Android, it's pretty standard. You can rely on most Java SE library primitives. Check this post, it's a bit old, but still informative: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/burnette/java-vs-android-apis/504 For all official packages included in the Android SDK, check this: http://developer.android.com/reference/packages.html When building with the SDK, the standard javac from Oracle JDK is used, and then the classes are compiled to dex format, before then can be run on the Dalvik VM.
