Without `ambitious plugin stuff' like pcm_multi, nobody would be able
to use multiple sound cards with ALSA. The fact that pcm_multi has needed
patching since January 2005 to make it work in duplex mode with jackd
is only a minor inconvenience compared with not having it at all.
Please, please keep pushing the ALSA guys to fix this. I keep raising
the issue and every time the thread peters out with no resolution.

I don't know the details, but it is probably due to jackd not using the
poll api in the way alsa recommends.
The current jackd skips a step in the processing of the poll events.
